Since 2008, BUOY has been committed to bringing thought-provoking contemporary art and music to its tiny nook on the Maine coast.
Cooperatively run by a close-knit group of artists, architects, musicians and community builders, BUOY supports the work of emerging artists and strengthens creative community by providing space for art making and research, exhibition, performance, and critical discourse.
BUOY’s 1500 sq ft. main space accommodates solo and group shows in a variety of mediums by BUOY members, visiting artists and touring acts. The gallery is equipped with customizable lighting, digital projection capabilities and a stereo PA system.
Prior to opening, BUOY was redesigned and upgraded to green building standards by ARQ Architects. The gallery now boasts solar-powered radiant heating, energy efficient lighting and 100% recycled insulation.
Now and into the future, BUOY promises to provide rewarding cultural experiences to the public while acting as an essential resource to artists from far away and close to home.
